GORDON -- 2,250: That's about how many steps Jeffrey Nemeth took through the streets of Gordon barefoot and dressed as Jesus.

"It's very important to me," said Nemeth. "It's a privilege I get to portray the greatest man to ever walk the face of the earth."

This is the 37th year Simpson United Methodist Church has walked through this part of Schuylkill County on Good Friday, the solemn day for Christians.

"It means a lot that it started so many years ago," said Rose Yost. "And that it continues, that's the important thing: that somebody is carrying on that tradition."

Rose Yost's husband started the walk and even though he has passed on, she has made it to every walk except one: in 1986 when she broke her leg.

"I'd say it might be my last, I don't know," said Yost. "At 81 and a half, what can you expect."

As churchgoers make their way through Gordon, Newswatch 16 found plenty of people stopping what they were doing, just to catch a glimpse as they passed by.

"It's nice to see that residents still show their faith in showing up for the procession," said Dominic Puglia of Gordon.

"It means it's a great feat that they're doing," said Victor Mickatabage of Gordon. "To me it does, and to everybody else."

After the walk, the cross was taken inside the church to prepare for the Easter holiday.
