SCRANTON -- A school principal in Scranton is in the hospital after a crash on Wednesday.

Police say David Bieri, the principal of Sumner Elementary, was driving on North Keyser Avenue when he dropped his phone. He went to pick it up and swerved into oncoming traffic.

Bieri's car hit a garbage truck. Officers tell us he was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

I hope this never happens to anyone in your families but if it does I hope people show you more respect than you are showing for this man. It could happen to anyone at anytime. You are all self rightous idiots.

Honest? How do you know he wasn’t reaching for the phone to answer it? We’ll never know definitively if he told the truth or not.

Sad but if cell phone is to blame then your car ins. should be void, i’m tired of paying high ins.
    because of fools.

To the Mr. Bieri and his family….I hope Mr. Bieri is doing better my prayers are sent for a speedy recovery. Mr. Bieri is an amazing principal and cares deeply for the students. He works countless hours for the school he serves. This is why they call them “accidents.” Please dont judge. It could happen to anyone of us. Thank God it wasn’t worse.

I hope he recovers soon. However, it’s becoming more and more prevalent to hear about this. When it’s an older person they usually say :”I hit the gas instead of the brake”. The younger ones tend to say :”I dropped the phone”. More than likely reaching for the phone to answer a call. GET OFF THE CELLPHONES WHEN DRIVING.
