LACKAWAXEN TOWNSHIP -- This time of year, people head to the shores of the Delaware River in our area to catch a glimpse of bald eagles.

With her binoculars in hand, Simone Daros keeps her eyes trained on not just one, but two bald eagles high above the Lackawaxen River in northern Pike County.

Daros has been to Lackawaxen Township many times to watch for the eagles, a symbol of American freedom.

"The eagles are taking a foothold again, they over winter here in the Delaware River, and we have resident eagles here," said Simone Daros, Long Island. "They're amazing to watch and it's an environmental story you want to be a part of."

Daros is not alone. The bald eagles in this area are a big draw to the Two River Junction which has a wall of windows overlooking the Lackawaxen.

"The view is excellent, can't take credit for the view but the windows. Chance to sit in the warm and watch eagles," said Dimitri Zimes, Two River Junction.

Whether it's the New York side of the river or the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River, there are spots for people to pull over and get a glimpse of those bald eagles. Especially since there are so few leaves on the trees and those eagles are still pretty active.

Lin Smith of Eldred, New York said, "Eagles are these outrageous birds, they're gorgeous."

"We know the spots they hang out in the trees, we walk and look up and see them," said Nina Flanigan of Eldred, New York.

Nina Flanigan and Lin Smith live near the Delaware River and say the eagles, with all their beauty and majesty, are the main reason for sightings this time of year. The people kind.

"Mostly on weekends, sometimes we see up to 8,12 at one time," said Flanigan.
