Fire Sends Man to Hospital

WILKES-BARRE -- One man was taken to the hospital after an early morning fire in Luzerne County.

Authorities said the fire started at a double block home on the 300 block of River Street around 4 a.m. Friday.

According to the fire chief, there were two people inside the home at the time. One man was taken to a VA Medical Center for breathing in too much smoke, and a woman sat in an ambulance to keep warm.

Firefighters said a couple of pets are missing.

The American Red Cross is helping the fire victims.

There is no word on what caused the fire.

    is it really necessary to let us know every time an animal (pet) doesn’t make it out of a fire; do you realize how sad it makes us animal lovers feel? Yes, I am concerned for the homeowners, and I am glad that they get out, but I don’t need to know that the animals didn’t. I also feel that accidents should not be posted until there are some definite details.I remember that one woman got a call because her family thought it was her car pictured in a preliminary report.
