MOOSIC -- John Tanis was sentenced Wednesday in Lackawanna County to one to two years in prison on animal cruelty charges.
Tanis was convicted in December of 2014 on five animal cruelty charges.
Tanis has been in jail since April for violating the terms of his bail.
During sentencing, Tanis spoke for 40 minutes asserting his innocence.
The judge said this case was just the latest in Tanis' "decades-long defiance of the law."
In addition to prison time, he was ordered to forfeit his dogs that have been in the care of an animal rights group since last year.
Tanis has previous convictions on animal cruelty and weapons charges.

Settle down all you keyboard commandos. He’s been in jail since April. He’ll be getting out soon.

Am I wrong for saying I don’t think a child molester should be given probation. This guy should receive this time plus more. My only problem is how can we justify this 1 to 2 years when this same county has given out probation to know child molesters.

I don’t normally comment on theses things I agree with his sentence but what I don’t agree with is that a child molester only gets probation it shouldn’t matter if it their first offense

Gosh, I sure hope they remember to feed him and water him and take him for walks and pet him from time to time.
