MAHANOY TOWNSHIP -- Troopers say icy roads led to a tractor-trailer* crash in Schuylkill County early Saturday morning.

According to state police, the driver was going north on Interstate 81 near Mahanoy City when the rig hit a patch of ice and flipped over just before 1 a.m.

State police say that the driver from Miami, Florida was wearing a seat belt and wasn't hurt. But, troopers plan to fine the driver for a lane violation

The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for about three hours while crews cleaned up the wreck in Schuylkill County.

2/15/14 - An earlier version of this story described the vehicle involved in the wreck as a car. Newswatch 16 regrets the error and apologizes for any confusion.

Car?? Hum! That is no car I have ever seen. However ice was a contributing factor as PennDot as usual does a terrible job; SPEED caused this accident, I travel Rt 15 bypass daily and trucks do not travel slowly when roads icy–that has been the case for a month now, PennDot clears the roads ok but leave wet and ice on all lanes. 40 mph has ben the norm for my driving and close to bern just in case need traction. BUT TRUCKS STILL GO OVER 60 MPH ALL THE TIME.
