PARADISE TOWNSHIP -- Jackpot is a word folks playing the slots at Mount Airy Casino sure like to hear. The casino near Mount Pocono usually has lots of people playing the slots, but many others are playing Powerball.
"People for certain are thinking about winning jackpots on the casino floor and by the way they'd like a shot at winning that $500 million dollars that's in the Powerball," said Mount Airy Casino VP of Marketing Vincent Jordan.
On the casino floor, jackpots have a wide range.
Anything from a few dollars to tens of thousands of dollars or even in the $100,000 range.
Over the eight years Mount Airy has been open, they've handed out lots of winnings.
"Approximately $370 million in jackpots since we've opened. That's quite a few jackpots," Jordan said.
Charles Freeman came from New Jersey to play the slots. He has a Powerball ticket waiting for him at home.
"Well last night I hit four out of five on a Cash 5, so I figured I wanted to try and buy the big one so I can win it. It's a shot in the dark, believe me," said Freeman.
This is where you can really win big at Mount Airy Casino, it's the high limits slot room. The biggest jackpot they've every paid out to one person, $160,000. It doesn't even compare to what you can win with just one of these tickets.
Some others say they know the chances of taking home the $500 million dollar Powerball jackpot are slim to none.
Loraine Paxton says she'll stick to what she knows.
"The royal flush which is the top amount you can get here and I'm going to get it. I just feel it," said Paxton of New Jersey.
Whether it's a Mount Airy jackpot or the Powerball, these gamblers say it's still ok to dream about hitting it big.
