SCRANTON -- Efforts are underway to build a new veterans memorial in Scranton.

The Friends of Connors Park Association are trying to raise money for a flagpole and memorial to honor veterans. They say when the park on Orchard Street was first built, there were plans for a flagpole, but the city ran into budget issues. Now they hope to fill part of the park with commemorative bricks as a way the money they need.

Now they hope to fill part of the park with commemorative bricks as a way to raise the money they need. Bricks would cost $65 each or two for $100. The bricks can be inscribed with personalized messages or individual's names.

"I can't stress that it's not just about this park here, the county's park, the city of Scranton or our association. It's about veterans," said Bob Gattens with Friends of Connors Park.

The group hopes to get the project completed in time for Memorial Day.
