FRANCES SLOCUM STATE PARK -- A new governor and new changes when it comes to getting natural gas in Pennsylvania.

Governor Tom Wolf signed an order that will ban any new drilling leases on state land.

The new order overturns what Tom Corbett signed back in May, allowing gas companies to lease land in state parks and forests.

People at Frances Slocum State Park in Luzerne County have mixed opinions on gas drilling in general, but they said, when it comes to drilling here, they're glad it won't be happening.

"I think they should not drill in state parks until they've exhausted all their other opportunities," said Paul Kowalek of Kingston Township.

Tony Monte of Dallas said, "I'm not for drilling, I think we have enough resources not to disturb our lands."

People who visit the park in Luzerne County said the natural gas leases and drilling would take away the beauty of the park.

Monte said, "Come the fall when the colors are out, man can't plan things like they way nature did it."

Monte also said the snow makes the place look pretty nice in the winter, too.
Kowalek agrees, he walks around the park in the Back Mountain area almost every day.

"I enjoy it just like it is. It doesn't need to get any better and hopefully it won't get any worse."

For now, it looks like not much will charge on Kowalek's daily walks through the state park.
