MONTROSE -- If you're planning to go to one town in Susquehanna County this weekend, don't forget your "passport."

Instead of getting a passport stamped by customs, people in Montrose are getting their passports stamped by different businesses all over town this weekend.

"It's important for all of us to come together because we're not going to be able to do it by ourselves," says Seneca Lewis, owner of Seneca's Bridal & Dress Boutique.

Here's how it works: go to a store, get a stamp, fill your passport with stamps, then turn it in to any of those stores and you could win $100 cash.

This is the first year Montrose businesses have used the passports and so far from customers, it makes all the difference when it comes to getting them out to stores.

"We'll have lunch somewhere, too, so if they're stamping, we can do that," says Debbie Pease of New Milford.

"Even if you are only coming in to get the thing stamped, you might cast your eye on something you really wanted and didn't know you wanted. It's a great thing for the shopkeepers," says Pam Undercoffler of Montrose.

Chocolates by Leopold is one of those businesses taking part. The manager says the holidays are one of their busiest times of the year and this unique collaboration only adds to that holiday rush.

"When the small businesses come together to do something special, it really gives the town the charm people look for in a small town," says Tom Follert.

With everyone in the holiday spirit, store owners say the event is drawing in a whole new crowd of customers.

"It's really fun to have everybody come into the shop and meet new people within the community," says Lewis.

"That's what makes this town special and it really is exceptional this time of year. Christmas is something to be seen in Montrose," Follert adds.

Community events will be going on all weekend around town and wrap up on Sunday.
