SUNBURY -- After the shooting death of an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, President Obama is proposing all police officers across the country wear body cameras.

The president is proposing the federal government pay for half of the cost of the cameras with state and local governments covering the other half.

Sunbury Police Chief Brad Hare says he thinks it's a great idea theoretically, but has a lot of unanswered questions.

"The concept is great. We have nothing to hide here so I wouldn't hesitate at putting body cameras on all my officers," said Chief Hare.

The chief says theoretically the president's plan is a good idea, but he has a lot of questions.

"I know what they're doing now is talking about funding half of it. It's coming up with the funding to try to figure out the other half."

The proposal calls for state and local government to pay for half of the cameras. That is something Chief Hare says Sunbury may have a hard time paying for.

He says Sunbury city council recently proposed laying off two officers. He says he would rather see more cops on the street than cameras.

"I can't justify trying to buy equipment if I don't have the manpower to put it on."

Some Sunbury residents have mixed reactions when it comes to the cameras.

"If they're chasing a suspect down the street or something, that camera's going to jump all over the place. They're not going to be able to see what they're doing," said Deb Vezo of Sunbury.

"The picture would tell the story. You wouldn't have to rely on who said what or whoever's version of the story. You would just be able to look at it," added Nicole Pack of Sunbury.

Federal funding for the cameras includes $75 million over the next three years to help get the program started.
