Some area Christmas tree farms are already preparing for those post-thanksgiving crowds later this week.

That includes the crew at Roba Family Farms just outside of Clarks Summit. Workers tell us they're spending much of the day getting dozens of different trees ready for Friday's rush.

"We are super-busy cutting trees, standing trees, making wreaths. We're going to sell about a thousand trees and maybe 300 to 400 wreaths, so we're making bows, we're decorating," explained Rhonda Healey.

And while real trees are a tradition for so many, for others, it's easier to go for a fake fir! Those artificial finds this year include new ones you can control with your smart phone.

If the whole process of snagging a real tree looks more like this scene out of that 1988 movie "Ernest Saves Christmas," then maybe eliminating what some might consider a holiday hassle could be a present in itself for stress-free tree trimming.

At Wal-Mart in Dickson City workers tell us they're expecting a holiday rush this week from folks looking to deck the halls but not looking to take all day to do it.

"They want easy, easy setup, quick and no maintenance," said Wal-Mart worker Diana Pritchyk. "They're quicksets; the wires are inside of them. You don't have to fiddle with any wires or anything like that."

Pritchyk says some of the hottest hits this holiday season are tech savvy artificial trees. Some you can turn on and off with your smart phone.

"You do your music on them."

Some crazy colorful ones are also at the top of many people's shopping lists.

"Pink trees, blue trees, lime green trees, purple trees," said Pritchyk.

As for the prices of these artificial evergreens they start at about $20 and go to about $250 here at Wal-Mart in Dickson City.   It all depends on how big and how colorful you want to get.

And no matter which artificial find you choose, you can always go back to the roots and still make it smell like the real deal with ornament scents. Call it just another way to bring some life to the holidays without having to sacrifice a staple of the season.
