NEW BERLIN -- A family in one part of Union County is getting into the spirit of Halloween for a good cause.
Logan Roush of New Berlin was born with cystic fibrosis, but he doesn't let his condition put a damper on his favorite holiday.
In fact, Logan uses his love of Halloween to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis.
When Newswatch 16 was contacted about Logan Roush's haunted house in New Berlin we were expecting a few scary props here and there, but when we got to his house and saw all of the work he and his dad put into "Roushville," we were blown away.
Welcome to Roushville, a haunted house on Spangler Street in New Berlin run by Logan Roush and his dad Shawn.
"He started it with a single skull and scared some kids and fell in love with it," Logan said.
Now, 17 years later, Logan and his dad have turned "Roushville" into something special.
"Every year we try to change things up, do something a little different," Shawn Roush explained.
Logan and his dad are self-proclaimed "Halloween fanatics."
Logan says the haunted house keeps his mind off of other things like his health. The 24 year old was born with cystic fibrosis and may someday need a lung transplant.
When he's in hospital for treatment, Logan passes the time by making Halloween decorations.
"It affects you your whole life. You don't get a break from it. It's always there. You always have to deal with it, so this is just a way to kind of get back at it I guess," said Logan.
The family does not charge admission for Roushville, but they do accept donations and all of those donations will be given to a local girl who is suffering from cystic fibrosis.
"I understand the costs involved and how difficult it can be."
Logan decided to give the proceeds from his haunted house to Mandy Eisenhauer, 29, from Selinsgrove, who has cystic fibrosis. She is waiting for a double lung transplant.
Logan's dad says he could not be more proud of his son.
"He does a great job. He has a lot of patience for doing some of the stuff I would rather not do. They kind of get the ideas and I just help make it work," Shawn said.
"Roushville" is located on Spangler Street in New Berlin. it is open through Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m.
Logan's dad says last year, around 300 people showed up on Halloween night to get a good scare and to raise money for cystic fibrosis at the same time.
