SHENANDOAH -- Folks gathered to honor the life of a priest born in Schuylkill County as the Vatican considers him for sainthood.

St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church in Shenandoah celebrated the 30th annual Father Walter Ciszek Day Mass.

The priest attended the church in Schuylkill County as a child.

He was a Jesuit missionary to the Soviet Union, accused of being a spy for the Vatican and held prisoner until he was returned to the United States in 1963.

Father Ciszek died in 1984 at the age of 80.

The mass has been celebrated in Schuylkill County for 30 years.
