SCRANTON -- The state attorney general's office has decided to withdraw the last remaining charge against former state Senator Robert Mellow of Lackawanna County in a kickback scheme involving Pennsylvania Turnpike contracts.
In March of 2013, Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane held a news conference to announce Mellow was one of the top figures in a scheme to take kickbacks from contractors in exchange for multimillion dollar contracts with the turnpike.
Earlier this month, a judge dismissed all but one of the seven counts against Mellow because of a lack of evidence.
There is no word from the attorney general on why the last charge was withdrawn.
