SCRANTON -- After being briefed at the state police barracks in Blooming Grove, Governor Tom Corbett met with the family of Corporal Bryon Dickson and visited Trooper Alex Douglass in the hospital Monday afternoon.

Governor Corbett spent about 20 minutes with the injured trooper. State police officials said Trooper Douglass is conscious and stable.

The governor asked that people continue to respect the trooper's privacy.

A spokesperson for the governor said that prior to his visit with Trooper Douglass in the hospital, he made a stop in Dunmore to visit with Corporal Dickson's family.

Earlier Monday, the governor issued a statement on the attack, calling it an "assault on society."

The public viewing for Corporal Dickson will be held Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the rotunda of the Liberal Arts Building at Marywood University in Scranton.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton.

Burial with full honors will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
