COALDALE — Police believe they have closed a missing persons case in Schuylkill County.

According to officials, a family searching for mushrooms found a decomposed body in a wooded area of Coaldale Saturday afternoon.

Police believe the man is Corey Samuels, who disappeared in January.

Investigators made the identification by showing clothing found at the scene to Samuels’ family.

On Sunday, a group of staff and students from Mercyhurst University assisted state police at the scene.

Investigators will try to determine exactly how the 24 year old died, but police do not think foul play is involved.

“A Coaldale former Marine, missing since Jan. 20, has yet to be found despite a two-day search by firefighters and other volunteers.

Corey Samuels, 24, suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder stemming from his experiences in the military, Coaldale police Sgt. Keith Krapf said.

“His family said this is not the first time he’s taken off for periods of time, but this is the first it’s been this long,” he said.” God Bless you Soldier.
