SCRANTON — A special soccer tournament was held in honor of a young athlete who died in Lackawanna County .

The 4th annual Jamie Kotula Kick-Off Soccer Tournament was held on Sunday at Marywood University.

The event raises money for college scholarships and donations to local charities.

Jamie died in 2011, at the age of 16, following a car crash and his dad said his son would be so proud to see his legacy.

“Jamie would absolutely… In his honor,” said John Kotula, Jamie’s father.

The goal of this year’s event was to raise $20,000 and provide scholarships for a player from each school that took part in the tournament in Scranton.
