WILKES-BARRE – The show will go on this weekend at Wisecrackers Comedy Club at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, but the main act will not be there.
The owner of the comedy club told Newswatch 16 that Bobcat Goldthwait cancelled his planned appearance this weekend, hours after learning that his friend had taken his own life.
“He was close friends with Robin and it`s a tough time for all of us,” said Scott Bruce.
At his home near Drums, Bruce talked with Newswatch 16 about memories from his first encounter meeting Robin Williams, at a club in New York City.
"He did about a 45 minute show, and sure enough the audience got up and left when he was done, and I had no show that night. But Robin was very gracious about it, he came and apologized. I believe he bought me a beer,” said Bruce. “I’ve been a comedian for 33 years. Unfortunately I’ve seen way too many of my friends go."
Although the main act won’t be there, Bruce said he and other comedians will still offer some laughs this weekend at Wisecrackers Comedy Club.
