KINGSTON TOWNSHIP -- A summer camp in Luzerne County gives kids the Power to Save: Water Camp.
School's out for summer but learning is still in at the Wonderful World of Water Camp at the Lands at Hillside Farms.
"We're able to learn about how important water is on the farm. The kids are learning about the watershed, the water cycle, how we use water, how much fun water can be obviously in the creek," said Pennsylvania American Water official Susan Turcmanovich.
Pennsylvania American Water hosts the camp in Luzerne County's Back Mountain for its customers for free.
This year, there are 25 kids between the ages of 7 and 11.
"We made an experiment. We used blue dye and water and bowls," said third grader Lexy Lichtenstein.
That was to learn about evaporation.
"Looking for fish and lifting rocks."
"Have you found anything good?"
"I found stuff, but I can't catch it. They're too fast. "
The kids are doing more than just splashing around. They're also learning about the environment and all of the different kinds of things that live in it.
"There's caterpillars, minnows, crayfish. It's very cool."
But what the kids are up to isn't the most important part of water camp, it's why they're doing it.
"So we don't pollute water because if you pollute water, it'll harm animals living in it," said fifth grader Stephen Brdaric.
And it's little tidbits like that that give these kids the Power to Save.
