OLYPHANT -- Authorities in Lackawanna County are wondering why a little girl wandered away from home in the middle of the night. Police found her sitting in her neighbor's car.

After a frantic search early Friday morning, the 5-year-old girl was found in her pajamas, sitting in a car on Spruce Street in Olyphant around 3:00 a.m.  The location is about three blocks away from her home on East Pine Street.

Authorities tell Newswatch 16 her mother noticed the girl was missing and called police.

The girl was taken to the hospital to be examined.  Police have not given a reason why the girl was inside the car.

Glad to hear the little girl is alright. My daughter attempted the same thing because she wanted to go to the carnival, and thought she could just leave. Luckily, I lock and chain the door before I go to bed. We found her in the morning sleeping under the couch pillows, after a scary search even though I knew she had to be in the house. Could only imagine this families scare.

I’m going with sleep walking….it’s the only explanation that makes sense. Then the question arises, why is this on the news?

Perhaps to alert other parents of the possibility even when you’re very careful anything is possible with a determined child? :) My son AND our dog were discovered walking down the block towards the park! Mind I was working and his dad was “watching” him.. he was working at home and he thought the boy was in the livingroom watching Blues Clues!
