SCRANTON — A Hindu temple on Prescott Avenue in Scranton prepares for it’s grand opening.

The Hindu temple has been around for 2 years but is now getting it’s icon.

The event drew worshipers from around the north east and even a prominent religious leader from India.

Members of the temple said this is a big step forward for their community.

“It makes any Indian want to come to Scranton more, when you have more temples at this level, so you will have more Indians coming here, more ethnic diversity coming here,” said Sarthak Patel of New Milford.

When Newswatch 16 stopped by,  the icon was being blessed outside by its sponsors and a parade is planned for later in the evening.

The icon will be moved inside Sunday at 10 a.m. in Scranton.

We have plenty of ethnic diversity in Scranton, how’s India doing on that front, or China, Japan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia……?
