NEWFOUNDLAND -- Bluegrass music will fill the air in part of Wayne County this weekend. The 18th annual Pocono Mountains Bluegrass Festival kicked off Friday morning under sunny skies.
Banjos, ukuleles, mandolins, and fiddles and the sounds of bluegrass, will all be taking center stage in the Poconos for a weekend-long festival.
"I'm telling you it couldn't get any better. We got great weather here and we have a lot of great people here with us," said Pocono Mountain Bluegrass Festival organizer Scott Eager.
There are 27 bands slated to take the stage at the GDS Fairgrounds for this weekend's Pocono Mountain Bluegrass Festival while music lovers kick back, camp, and enjoy.
Rob Penska of Simpson said he hasn't missed a festival in the 18 years it's been around.
"It's just a great festival. It's a great place. It's one of the best places to have a festival because it's got a covered stage area. You don't have to worry about the rain or the sun or anything like that," said Penska.
Making this music, Penska said, is his favorite part.
"You learn the music, you learn to click with other people, you jam with your friends," said Penska.
Organizers said this festival is also a perfect place for beginners to stop by and learn how to pick.
Some bluegrass lovers came from Milford, and as far away as Montana.
"It's a beautiful weekend. I have never been here, I've heard about this one a couple of times, so I decided to come try it," said Leslie Lacika of Milford.
Lacika says although she's a novice but she's already getting better.
"Because, you know what? You get better when you play with people who are better than you are. And everybody is very nice I always learn some things," said Lacika.
The Pocono Mountain Bluegrass Festival will be in the air all weekend through Sunday at 4 p.m. at the GDS Fairgrounds.
