SCRANTON---The 2014 FIFA World Cup is underway.

This is the 20th annual international mens soccer competition.

It happens every four years.

Kildare's Irish Pub in Scranton is showing all the games and fans are flocking.

"World Cup, every four years, it's pretty much like the Olympics but for just soccer. I get really excited about it. I know a lot of people are excited about it," said James Finkernagel of Kildare's Irish Pub.

"There's a lot of soccer leagues around here, and like high schools, they're pretty big on soccer so there has to be a good amount of excitement in this area," said Hayden Strickland of Scranton.

Newswatch 16 found fans cheering for Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Germany and of course, the USA.

"I've always been into it. I played soccer my whole life, and I am Portuguese, sorry to say, sorry guys. But I am still rooting for the USA, obviously," said Justin Ramahlo, a University of Scranton student.

The World Cup is being held in Brazil this year.

The first game of the World Cup was Brazil versus Croatia. Brazil won.

Allan Souza thrilled.

He co-owns Studio LA in Scranton and teaches Zumba, a dance fitness class.

Souza is also Brazilian.

"Oh my God, it's been like the biggest thing for us, I mean we love the World Cup. We've won the most World Cups yet and since it's in our country this year, it's been like a party everywhere, my whole family there has been contacting us. It's like everything is closed. It's just a big old party there. "

In honor of the World Cup, Souza choreographed a dance to this year's officials World Cup song.

People in his class wore jerseys and waved flags of countries they were cheering for.

"We save all the energy just for a month every four years so everyone is just super excited. It's just a huge party. Every day there is a game, every day is a huge party. "

The FIFA World Cup lasts for a month, ending on July 13th.
