MOOSIC -- Martin Corbett, known as Mackin to his friends and family, was 21 years old on June 6th, 1944, known as D-Day.
Seventy years later, the 91 year old reflects on the day he landed on the beaches of Normandy, France during the allied invasions.
"They started going in around 6 a.m. Had I got there earlier, I wouldn't be there talking to you. In other words, the bodies were just all over the beach," said Corbett.
Corbett worked as a medic during his tour in Europe.
'We had about 30 to 40 patients lined up every day, one right after the other, and we just had to keep putting them in as fast as we could," said the former medic.
The World War II veteran said he was on the beach from June 6th until July 25th in 1944.
Corbett said, "It seems like we went three or four days before I even had a chance to lie down."
Corbett went to visit Normandy on the 40th anniversary of D-Day and said he was welcomed back with open arms.
Looking back seven decades later, he said he feels lucky to be alive.
"All you had to do was look around and see all these people dead and you got the message, right then and there, how fortunate."
After leaving Normandy, Corbett became a part of George Smith Patton's army.
