UPDATE — According to PennDOT, Route 147 south of Sunbury has been reopened as of Thursday afternoon and the detour has been lifted.

SUNBURY — A road in Northumberland County will remain closed on Thursday due to concerns of rock slides triggered by rainy weather.

Route 147 between Second Street in Sunbury and Brush Valley Road in Upper Augusta Township will be closed while crews install barriers as a temporary protection from rock slides, according to PennDOT.

Crews hope to have the barriers in place by Thursday afternoon.

A detour is in place.

PennDOT says more extensive, permanent repairs are being planned for that area of Route 147 in Northumberland County.
