The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed a case of measles that could have exposed others to possible infection.
Health officials said the potential exposures could have occurred at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Officials at Pocono Medical Center said they identified individuals who may have been exposed and contacted them to determine their vaccination status.
The patient also received treatment at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville on Wednesday, April 23. Officials said anyone who was in the Foss Clinic from 1 to 6:30 p.m., in the areas of the main entrance, the sixth floor, the elevators, and the outpatient lab may have been exposed. People that rode the shuttle to and from the facility between the hours of 4:15 and 6:30 p.m. may have also been exposed.
According to the Department of Health, measles is caused by a highly contagious virus and symptoms will begin one to two weeks after exposure. Symptoms include a runny nose, watery eyes, cough, and a high fever. After four days a rash appears that usually lasts four to seven days.
Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to the virus should contact their doctor immediately.

Geisinger released the following statement: “Geisinger is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and following all proper protocols and taking all necessary precautions. Those employees who may have been exposed have been notified and will be tested as appropriate. Additionally, we want to assure the public that Geisinger Medical Center in Danville is safe.”
