NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY— Opening day at The Fence Drive-In near Milton may have been a bit soggy Friday, but that did not keep the crowds away.

When one vehicle would leave, two more would arrive.

“We come because we love the food, the fish sandwich basket with extra tartar sauce, cabbage salad, a lemon blend,” said Carol Brame of Lewisburg.

Most people were waiting for a taste of the famous fish.

“People just love it. The fish sandwiches are the best,” said Tim Sears of Milton.

The drive-in along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River has been a hotspot for decades.

It is closed in the cold winter months and when opening day comes in the spring, people are eager.

“Usually the first customer comes at three o’clock and we don’t open until four. We have a lot of loyal customers who look forward to us every year which we just love,” said Trisha Rabb of The Fence Drive-In.

Hundreds of people crowded to the drive-in for the first day of the season.

“We were kind of hoping we would miss the rush because of it being rainy and being a little earlier, but it’s really full,” said Pam Benfer of Lewisburg.

Many of the folks at the drive-in on opening day have been coming for years.

“It’s been here as long as I can remember. I used to come when I was a little kid. It was nice when it’s nice out. You can go out and skip stones in the river,” said Mike Benfer of Lewisburg.

The Fence Drive-In is open for the season. It will close in October.

The place is open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 8:30p.m. and on the weekends from 11 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
