SCRANTON -- Nearly three weeks after a deadly crash, people are still rallying to support the family of two teenagers who died in Scranton.
It was a wreck in early February along the North Scranton Expressway that killed Fatima Lebron and her brother Stephen.
Police have not said what caused the crash, but they believe the vehicle skidded on wet roads, before flipping onto the on-ramp from main avenue.
And while their family struggles to cope with the loss, many are working to make sure they're not doing it alone.
The gym at Scranton high school was full of people last night. Showing support for the Lebron family.
North East Intermediate organized a three on three basketball tournament with all the money going to the family.
The two victims were students at the middle school.
The event was planned well before the crash but when administrators saw the family was struggling, they changed the focus of the competition to offer a helping hand.
"Our grief counselors and teachers have bent over backwards to accommodate the students and make it an open shoulder to cry on and someone to be there for them," said Principal Robert Butka.
Newswatch 16 spoke with the uncle of the two teens. He told us the money will help but it is the sentiment that makes a real difference.
"Anything is a big help. A smile, a hug. That's more important than any amount of money," said Daniel Lebron Uncle
In addition to the tournament. Basket raffles were held and t-shirts and bracelets sold.
The shirts and bracelets read, "we are family."
All of that money goes to the lebron family.
