The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says a 22-mile stretch of the Northeastern Extension (I-476) will be closed in both directions for six hours on Sunday.

Closures begin at 12:01 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. and will include the area between Mahoning Valley (Exit 74) and Pocono (Exit 95) interchanges.

The purpose of the closure is to protect motorists and workers during the removal of steel girders from the bridge that carries state route 903 over the turnpike at milepost A87 in Penn Forest Twp. in Carbon County.

All traffic will be diverted off I-476 Southbound at the Pocono interchange and diverted off Northbound at the Mahoning Valley interchange.

Interesting story after the big Bensalem incident last week. Just a note to the TP commission.. Maybe you should be protecting emergency responders the same way you protect your own!!!!!!!
