EAST STROUDSBURG -- A school in the Poconos was closed Thursday after a water leak was discovered in front of the school in the early morning hours.

East Stroudsburg High School South was then canceled because the school had no running water.

Neither did 100 homes and businesses in the surrounding area.

You could hear the heavy equipment digging up part of Courtland Street in East Stroudsburg.

Borough workers were busy all morning, trying to find out where a leak was coming from.

The leak gushed water out onto the roadway in front of East Stroudsburg High School South.

"It's kind of getting annoying at this point," said Antonica Anglon, who attends East Stroudsburg High School South, "My mom said not to run the water or anything because we have to conserve it until they get the water back on,".

To make sure the community was aware of the leak and water being shut off until borough crews figured out what happened, notices were handed out and left on neighbors' doors.

Despite the water being temporarily shut off, some people, like Keisha Pitt, went to the nearby laundromat anyway before the pipes went dry.

"There's water now. I needed to wash my daughter's clothes," said Pitt.

The East Stroudsburg Borough Manager says the leak was from an old service line, not the main water line.

Everything has been repaired, water is restored and there's no need to boil your water in that area near East Stroudsburg High School South.

School will be back in session Friday.
