KINGSTON – With warmer weather and rain in the Stormtracker 16 forecast, some people in the Wyoming Valley said they are worried about the possibility of street flooding, if there is a quick snowmelt.
On the Kingston Police Department Facebook Page, DPW workers asked residents to move cars off of snow covered side streets and alleys, so plow trucks can clear the roads and move snowbanks that are covering storm drains.
Maryann Azarewicz said plugged storm drains have caused flooding issues before, when snowbanks melt in front of her home.
“I’ve had enough of this snow. There`s no place to put it,” said Azarewicz. “The storm drains, they get packed up or the pumps aren`t working, something is not working right and this just gets flooded all the time.”
Dave Stankavage said he’s more concerned about the possibility of street flooding than the level of the Susquehanna River, on the other side of the levee.
“Hopefully it will melt slow enough, so we don`t have those problems like we had in the past,” said Stankavage.
Officials with the Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency said workers will keep a close eye on river and stream levels, as the temperatures rise and snow begins to melt.
