The day after Christmas is traditionally one of the busiest days of the year for ski resorts in our area.

Some of those ski resorts were open in November, but a lot of people consider the day after Christmas as the real start to the ski season.

Alpine Mountain in Analomink opened Christmas Day. When we stopped by the day after, we found a family of Brits spending their Boxing Day giving the slopes a try.

"We've never done this," said Joe Bamberger. "We are strangers here."

While Alpine Mountain in Monroe county may not be the largest resort in the Poconos, we met people from Europe and South America who went there because it is a low key spot for beginners and families.

Not far away in Carbon County, we met lots of people making their first runs of the season under the lights at Jack Frost Big Boulder in Lake Harmony.

"It's like catching your first wave," said snowboarder Erin Federman.

Taylor McLoughlin and a dozen Texans drove all the way from the Big D to Carbon County for the winter weather.

"We don't have cold weather. It's always 70, so we enjoy the cold up here," said McLoughlin.
