HONESDALE -- A man from Wayne County was in court today to be sentenced for having sex with a 15-year-old girl last year.

Ricker Gould was 21 at the time and a counselor at the summer camp his parents own and operate.

Prosecutors said Gould was a camp counselor at Independent Lake Camp near Pleasant Mount last summer and along with two other counselors, played a game of "high stakes" with female campers which led to sex and now lands Gould in state prison.

A judge in Wayne County sentenced Gould to at least 23 months in prison for statutory sex assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Gould pleaded guilty earlier this year and admitted giving alcohol to the teen girls at the summer camp where he worked.

Gould's adoptive parents run the camp and two other former counselors there still await sentencing.

Court papers said Gould played a betting game with the underage girls, gave them booze and then had sex with one of them.

In court, Gould told the judge he was sorry and he prays for the victims every night.

"There was a part of me that wanted to try the case but Ricker wanted to get this over with, he didn't want to put the girls through anymore suffering and it was all his choice to get this behind him. I think the judge did what he thought was fair," said Gould's attorney Jack McMahon.

The judge said what Gould did was cruel and he abused his position of authority at the summer camp in northern Wayne County.

Ricker Gould gets credit for three months served and will spend at least the next 20 months in state prison.
