State police in Northumberland County have a warning for some people in our area.

Troopers said to beware of a new phone scam in central Pennsylvania where someone receives a call, and the caller tells the victim that a family member is in danger. The caller says that the victim’s relative was either taken hostage or in a minor accident.

State police said the caller then says that the victim must pay $2,000 or their family member will be harmed. The caller also has some background information on the victims.

If anyone receives calls like this, please contact your local police department.
