MIFFLINBURG –Fire investigators said Thursday the cause of flames at a hotel in Union County has been ruled accidental.

Firefighters said they were in the right place at the right time when a historic tavern went up in flames.

The fire broke out just before 6 p.m. Monday in the kitchen of Mifflinburg Hotel & Scarlet D Tavern on Chestnut Street.

The facility which dates back to 1854 was closed at the time of the fire.

Fire officials said they were able to knock down the flames quickly because it was training night at a fire station right across the street.

State police said the damage done to the building is estimated to be around $75,000.
