EAST STROUDSBURG -- One woman in East Stroudsburg is on a mission to help her neighbors and other people in need in the Poconos to make sure everyone has a Thanksgiving meal this year.

For several years, Barbara Martin has made it her mission to fight hunger in her community.

Martin founded a non-profit organization based in East Stroudsburg called "The Good Shepherd Foundation."

She started small, with her neighbors in need.

"I see it all around me and I said 'What can I do to help them?'," explained Martin.

She took Newswatch 16 through her neighborhood to show us the route she takes to deliver bread.

During which, we met one of the people she helps.

"It's nice. It definitely helps out every Sunday we get all different kinds of bread," said Matthew Weidenbaum of East Stroudsburg.

Barbara is now looking to help her neighbors in East Stroudsburg and beyond by collecting turkeys for Thanksgiving.

But she says in order to do that, she needs your help to help others.

"That is to feed families senior citizens, people of the community. That is the biggest feeding I have ever done," said Martin.

She shows Newswatch 16 her freezers that are set up to hold the turkeys.

So far, only a few turkeys have been collected, but Martin hopes to help 150 families.

It's a mission Barbara's neighbors are applauding.

"That would be great because I don' t get out that much now," said Joseph Fedor of East Stroudsburg.

"I feel sorry for people today because they're struggling. There's a lot of struggles out there," said Martin.

Struggles and hunger Barbara hopes to help bring to an end.
