WILKES-BARRE — Security cameras are likely to stay put in Wilkes-Barre’s parking garages.

Members of the parking authority have decided to sign a three-year contract worth $300,000 to continue using the Hawkeye cameras in and around the city garages.

Officials said the non-profit Hawkeye board will dissolve by the end of this year and the cameras will be run by the city. The new parking authority contract will transfer over to the city once the deal is done.

The reliability of the cameras has come into question because of the quality of their images.
