SCHUYLKILL COUNTY--- Monday is Veterans Day, a day to honor those who are serving or who have served our country.
Students in the North Schuylkill School District honored some World War II veterans Friday and two of them were given high school diplomas because they went off to war and never graduated!
Patriotism filled the auditorium at the North Schuylkill Junior/Senior High School near Frackville during a ceremony honoring all veterans.
Two special veterans were honored with diplomas some seventy years after leaving school for war.
"I think it's great that the people support us the main thing and they didn't forget us," said veteran Owen McGinley.
Eighty-five-year-old Harold Reichwein was also was given his high school diploma, as his daughter looked on.
"I am so grateful to be able to sit by him today while he gets this. It brings tears to your eyes," said Sheila Pitcavage, Reuchwein's daughter.
Three-hundred students watched and listened to the ceremony. They learned about honor, bravery and patriotism.
"I couldn't even imagine some of the boys or even girls in our class getting drafted in their senior year and not being able to graduate and I started to cry because it's just amazing and incredible they gave them the opportunity to get their diploma," said high school senior Maura Gownley.
"My grandfather served and passed away a few years ago, so this just touches me," agreed Tyler Briel, a high school junior.
North Schuylkill school officials said if there are any other veterans who served their country without getting their high school dipolmas, they should call school officials.
