BELLEFONTE—It is a lawsuit that has captured the attention of those in State College and of Penn State and college football fans across the country and Tuesday, a judge heard argiuments fdrom both sides.

The Paterno family wants to reverse NCAA sanctions against Penn State, made after the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal.

Those NCAA anctions included fines, the loss of football scholarships, a ban against championship and bowl games and the fortfeiture of more than 100 wins under legendery coach Joe Paterno.

Attorneys for the NCAA argued the Paterno family lawsuit should be dismissed.

Earlier this week, Penn State officials confirmed they are paying out about 60 million dollars to settle civil lawsuits as a result of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

He was convicted of more than 40 counts of sexual abuse last year.

“We are very optimistic that this case will go forward that we will be able to get discovery as to what was really going on behind the scenes,” said an attorney for the Paterno estate.

The judge in this case wil lwrite a written decision on the lawsuit. There is no word on when that will be.
