UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State University announced Monday that it has agreed to pay nearly $60 million to victims of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Sandusky was convicted in June 2012 of abusing several boys on and off campus.

The university said that 26 victims will receive payments of $59.7 million in return for releasing the school from any other claims.

School officials said the payments will come from insurance policies, not from tuition or donations.

Sandusky was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison in October of 2012.
