GIRARDVILLE — A police officer from Schuylkill County was involved in a crash while on duty Thursday night.

Girardville officer Douglas Litwhitler tells us he was making a turn when his cruiser was hit from behind.

“He said he was going up to Gilberton and he put his head down for a couple of seconds and he looked up and said he didn’t have time to stop or swerve and ran into the back of me,” Officer Litwhitler said.

Officers tell us the crash put the Girardville’s only marked car out of commission. The department has an unmarked car they can use.

State police are investigating but we haven’t heard if anybody will be cited for the crash.
