SUNBURY -- A woman from Northumberland County will spend up to four years in prison in connection with the death of her 1-year-old granddaughter.
Bertha Dreese, 65, of Selinsgrove was sentenced Thursday to 16 to 48 months in prison.
She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter last week.
Investigators said Dreese was supposed to be looking after the baby but did not check on her for more than 24 hours.
Authorities in Northumberland County say the little girl died from overheating after lying next to a space heater the entire time.
The baby’s parents, Heidi Yocum and Lopaka Loner pleaded guilty in 2011 to reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. The father was sentenced to 11.5 months in Northumberland County Prison and the mother must serve at least one year in state prison.
