KINGSTON --- Wednesday night marked the start of the celebration of the Jewish New Year.

Rosh Hashanah began at sundown.

Newswatch 16 stopped by Temple B'nai B'rith along Wyoming avenue in Kingston.

We found people marking the Day of Repentance in Judaism.

In accordance with tradition, Thursday morning offers something special for worshipers.

"In the morning we'll have the blowing of the shofar which is the herald, the trumpeting in of the New Year and the call for repentance," said Rabbi Roger Lerner.

Rosh Hashanah ends at nightfall on Friday.

Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days and is followed ten days later by Yom Kippur, the day of atonement.
