Two Killed in Crash Near Elysburg

RUSH TOWNSHIP -- Two people are dead after a fiery wreck today in Northumberland County. It happened this morning along a rural road outside the borough of Elysburg.

State police have not released the names of those two victims. Troopers say they are still trying to notify family members.

Investigators say the deadly crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Rushtown Road near Elysburg.

According to state police, the driver and passenger were heading east on Rushtown Road. The pickup truck went off the roadway, hit a tree and flipped onto its roof. The truck slid across the road and ended up in the left-hand lane. The vehicle caught fire and was destroyed by flames.

Troopers say one person was inside the truck. And one person was trapped underneath it. Both people died at the scene.

State police have not said what caused this morning's deadly crash near Elysburg and again they have not yet released the victims' names.
