MOOSIC -- Derek Jeter is once again in town, playing ball with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a pretty good crowd at PNC Field.

At his first at-bat, New York Yankees Captain Derek Jeter easily made it to second.

Jeter is back at PNC Field, playing again with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders.

“I`m really enjoying this, I`ve gone to New York to see him a lot, we went to Baltimore last year to see him so this is really convenient for me,” said Cindy Stremski of Dunmore.

This is Jeter`s second round this season with the Yankees’ top minor league team.

His first stint was in early July, to rehab an ankle injury.

His appearance then drew record crowds.

This time he's rehabbing a calf injury and once again the fans are taking advantage.

“He`s a class guy, he`s one of the ones you want to come to see,” said Yankees fan Nancy Evanish of Wilkes-Barre.

A player maybe not so popular these days is fellow Yankee Alex Rodriguez who also played at PNC Field in July.

But it`s the controversy surrounding A-Rod that`s overshadowing this season.

A-Rod continues to play while appealing a 211 game suspension, punishment for his alleged connection to performance enhancing drugs.

“It`s detracting from the whole team, and they`re struggling as it is with all the injuries that they`ve had this year, but he`s a big distraction, yes,” said Evanish.

The A-Rod drama imploded Sunday Night after Boston Red Sox Pitcher Ryan Dempster drilled A-Rod in the batter's box.

There were plenty of Red Sox fans at PNC Field as the Railriders took on Boston`s minor league team.

Those fans said Dempster was showing how they all feel that A-Rod is still taking the field.

“Everybody that got implicated, they fessed up to what they did except him,” said Dave Hastings of Old Forge, “and he gets to play, and he could help beat teams that are in the playoff hunt.”
