EAST STROUDSBURG -- Animal cruelty charges against a man from East Stroudsburg mean he could stand trial in Monroe County.

But that man denies that he abused his dog.

Authorities say Lamont Scott abused his pit bull terrier puppy, named Lexy, this past spring.

But according to court papers, Scott says the dog was hit by a car.

"I am an animal lover myself," said Scott.

Newswatch 16 also asked Scott if he hurt his dog and his answer was," No."

"I hope there is justice for Lexy and that's part of the reason why I'm here," said Lori Steinberg of East Stroudsburg.

Steinberg describes herself as an animal lover. She heard about the case and came to the hearing in East Stroudsburg.

"It's very sickening," said Steinberg.

Lonny Taylor from East Stroudsburg works near Scott's home, where some of the alleged abuse took place back in May.

"I heard the dog yelping and crying as if he was in pain," said Taylor.

Another witness testified seeing Scott punch Lexy in the face in June and throw the puppy down a set of stairs. Then, that same witness led a humane officer to the injured dog.

The humane officer says when she found Lexy in June, the dog struggled to get up and also had scars and lacerations on her face and under her jaw.

Lexy was taken to Creature Comforts Veterinary Services in Saylorsburg. The veterinarian testified that the dog had 29 bone fractures. She believes Lexy was hurt more than once.

"This is the kind of injury that could be created by getting hit by an object or getting hit by, I don't what to say, a fist. But it would be that kind of damage," said Dr. Karin-Susan Breitlauch, the owner of Creature Comforts Veterinary Services.

Lexy is now at a foster home where the veterinarian says she's doing great.

A trial date for Lamont Scott has not yet been scheduled.
