MACKEYVILLE - This week is the big payoff for members of the 4-H club in Clinton County.

The amusements and food vendors come alive in the evenings at the Clinton County Fair near Mill Hall.

While all day long, 4-H members are tending to their animals.

The kids have spent a long time getting their cows, poultry and pigs ready for show.

Michaela Geyer of Mill Hall is hoping to cash in on her hard work, namely Star and Daisy who are 250-some pounds each.

"I'll get a lot of money back for them and stuff, that's nice so that I can use that to buy my following years animals and the feed I'll put into them," said Geyer.

Taking care of the animals starts early in the morning and lasts the whole day long.

Josh Ebersole is a livestock judge and spent years in the 4-H program.

"This was a very valuable point in my life starting out in the 4-H and learning responsibility, and don't take stuff for granted," said Ebersole.

And when the fair is over, the 4-H members and their animals must part ways.

But for many of them, the whole process will start again, getting ready for next year's fair.

The Clinton County Fair runs through Saturday.
