JIM THORPE -- Many acts of kindness are being carried out this week and next in Carbon County.

The basement of Saint John's Lutheran Church in Jim Thorpe has just about any item of clothing you can think of, and it's all free. The giveaway has been going on for about 15 years, and organizers said this year a record number of people have been taking advantage of the church program.

"It's because people aren't working, and they don't have the money to buy the clothing so they come here which is free, we don't charge for it," said Miriam Borosh of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Sylvia Redline said the economy drives her to the clothing giveaway.

"The bills are going up. I don't have any money left to go shopping! They took all my money, and all I get is social security," said Redline of Jim Thorpe.

Amanda Freeby looks for some baby clothes and also said the economey is a factor.

"I was on maternity leave, and because I am a part time employee, I don't get paid for my maternity leave, so it does cut in to my budget," said Freeby of Jim Thorpe.
