WILKES-BARRE — Work to demolish the Hotel Sterling in Wilkes-Barre will impact traffic on Monday, July 29.

City officials say the temporary road closures on Monday are needed to accommodate work on the side of the Sterling that faces North River Street.

On Monday, North River Street, beginning at the Jackson Street entrance just past the Luzerne County Courthouse, will be closed near the Market Street intersection. Barricades will be in place at the intersections of North River and Jackson Streets and North River and Union Streets.

Drivers coming into Wilkes-Barre on North River Street will have to turn left on Jackson Street and use North Main Street to get to the downtown and surrounding areas.

Monday’s closures will not affect South River Street traffic entering and exiting the Market Street Bridge or West Market Street.

Wilkes-Barre officials expect to provide details on additional traffic closures and delays later in the week as the demolition process continues.
